Richard was educated at King Edward V1 Grammar School Morpeth. He graduated in Law from Leeds University in 1971, and was admitted as a solicitor in 1974. He has practised in Family Law and Criminal Law until 2004 since when he has practised in Criminal Law only. He now devotes his time between Ccriminal Advocacy and managing the practice jointly with Philip Shepherd.
